5 things / MLK
This week, I have four things to share because I took off Monday to spend MLK Day volunteering with my 9 year old son. It's our second year in a row doing this and is truly a fun and uplifting experience. I highly recommend taking "a day on, not a day off."
Speaking of kids, I was introduced to the Inclusion School podcast this week, a new show to provide parents, caregivers, and educators with tools to have diversity and inclusion conversations with kids. It's definitely worth a listen.
And, speaking of podcasts, I was interviewed on Next Pivot Point this week! Here's my take on the "Future of Diversity and Inclusion."
And finally, here is the top inspiring best practices and good news I discovered this week:
LeBron James has a new partnership with Lyft designed to give low income teens free access to Lyft's bike share programs. LeBron knows firsthand the importance of affordable transportation for teens, and this program will help kids be able to get to and from school, work, (and basketball practice).
In Seattle, Microsoft committed $25 million to organizations working to end homelessness, and another $475 million to housing developers for affordable and low-income housing.
An astounding 65% of Fortune 500 companies now have transgender-inclusive health care coverage. This figure comes from the Human Rights Campaign which just released its annual Corporate Equality Index, a barometer of a company's LGBTQ inclusivity.
In 8 days, Katie Sowers will be both the first woman and the first openly gay person to coach in a Super Bowl. Katie is a popular offensive coach with the the San Francisco 49ers. She was also the star of a recent Microsoft ad.
