5 things / Jeopardy
Yesterday I was shocked to read someone's post on Facebook that Alex Trebek read the term "genderqueer" as part of a Jeopardy clue. That term, by the way, means something similar to non-binary and gender fluid. It just goes to show how much times are changing - and I love it.
Here are some of the other best practices and good news I learned this week:
There's a new video game called Ava (which just won a T-Mobile innovation challenge) that is created by and for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This role playing game allows folks to learn social skills and advocate for themselves while solving the game's challenges.
Google revealed that they have 2,000 employees solely focused on creating inclusive products. These employees are embedded in project teams to ensure they are building tools for everyone.
Japan's Environmental Minister Shinjirō Koizumi will soon take a 2 week paternity leave (albeit spread over 3 months). This is notable because only 6% of Japanese dads take parental leave, and his announcement places him as a possibility model for other fathers.
The Women's National Basketball Association will soon have a new 8 year contract, one that pays more equitably and provides significantly better benefits for mothers and aspiring mothers.
