5 things / AAPI Heritage Month
This month is Asian-American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, and I would love to hear how your organization is honoring its AAPI employees. This is particularly important as that community has seen a dramatic spike in discrimination since the Covid-19 pandemic began.
Ascend is an organization of AAPI leaders and its #AscendTogether action agenda outlines ways to support this community. This week, I was inspired to learn that it has been signed by over 100 companies. Yours can join, too.
Other inspiring things I learned this week include:
Twitter told most of its employees that they can work remotely forever. I believe that we'll see many more companies doing the same going forward.
Kroger's Dairy Rescue program rescues unsold milk from farmers and brings it to food banks. To support both farmers and needy families, the company has committed to donating an additional 200,000 gallons of milk by the end of August.
Like many other cities, Pride in New York has been cancelled, but its virtual event on June 28 promises to be a blast. Dan Levy, creator and star of Schitt's Creek, is one of the Grand Marshals. Re-watching that show has brought me some serious joy the past few weeks.
Guy Fieri helped the Restaurant Workers Relief Fund raise more than $22 million for restaurant employees who can't work due to Covid-19. The fund has already given out 40,000 grants.
