5 things / beauty everywhere
I don't know about you, but it feels like the yardstick of "normalcy" keeps moving. Here in Chicago, we're entering week 9, still trying not to go stir crazy, grateful for the sunshine when we get it, and binging a new TV show every week. My partner and I are both hustling to pivot our businesses, and moved our speaking and training programs to virtual. And we are the lucky ones. I'm sure you get it.
Still, there's beauty everywhere and I don't have to look hard to find it. Here are five inspiring things I learned this week:
The small town of Gambier, OH passed an anti-discrimination policy that includes sexual orientation and gender identity - and they did it via a Zoom meeting - because "people can't wait." The state of Ohio as a whole doesn't have an LGBTQ-inclusive policy, so local policies like are incredibly important.
Residents of Ireland have raised more than $2 million for Navajo and Hopi Native Americans hit hard by Covid-19. These donations via GoFundMe are in repayment of the $170 donation the Choctaw Nation sent Ireland during the potato famine.
In a very cool pivot, the convenience app for live sports lovers, Paranoid Fan, has now become Nepjun. Nepjun is an app to make food banks and pantries more efficient, including allowing users to choose a socially distant curbside pickup slot.
Salesforce shared their high-tech plan for office reopening in Seoul, which includes temperature checks via their own Work.com apps on their phone. It's a pretty interesting setup and could give us a glimpse of a strange future.
And in something for me to truly look forward to, Betty White will be starring in a Lifetime Christmas movie this holiday season.
