5 things / women’s equity
One of the biggest, non-political, headlines this week was Melinda Gates' pledge to donate $1 billion over the next 10 years towards programs which support women's equity. She has a few focus areas, including fast-tracking women in fields such as tech and public service, but I'm really looking forward to seeing more specifics as they are released.
Here are the other top things I learned this week in the areas of good news/best practices in diversity, equity, inclusion, and corporate social responsibility:
Bra company ThirdLove, which is actually a tech, artificial intelligence company, is bucking tech trends by having a tech workforce that is 85% female. 90% of AI workers are typically male.
Mattel is back in the news this week with another inclusive product - UNO cards that are in braille. It's about time, right?
Children's TV is gender balanced, according to a study by Geena Davis' Institute on Gender in Media. This is far from true in film, but it's great news for kids TV.
The new face of Everlast Boxing is Patricio Manuel, who just happens to be a transgender man. Check him out in the new Be First campaign.
