5 Things / jobs council

Hi there -

This week I discovered this article profiling some pandemic gay weddingsYou might find some joy as you read through. I know I did.

Here are some other things that gave me hope this week:

  1. Looking for a cheesy movie this weekend? Hallmark Channel's new movie "Wedding Every Weekend" premieres today and features a bi-racial couple, a Jewish couple, and a same-sex couple. I know that I need a break from this year, and this movie may be just the respite. Representation matters.

  2. Zomato, a food delivery company in India, has announced a new employee benefit: up to 10 paid days off annually for anyone who menstruates (and yes, some men do, too). This matters because the side effects of menstruation can be debilitating for some folks, and this benefit shows compassion and inclusion. The CEO's comments are inspiring and worth checking out.

  3. 27 firms (including Amazon and JP Morgan Chase) have formed the NY Jobs CEO Council. The commitment is to hire 100,000 people from low-income Black, Latino and Asian communities by 2030This matters because the goal is public, specific, and has built-in accountability - and because these jobs can help reduce the racial equity gap.

Finally, this week I read this quote: "Of course, Black lives matter. Do we think our little white asses are the only ones that matter? No!”

There's much more in this delightful interview with the legendary Dolly Parton, Dreamer-in-Chief of the Dollywood CompanyIt's worth a read.

This matters because Dolly is keenly aware of her advantages in life, and therefore her responsibilities to use her voice and influence to lift others up.

How can you do as Dolly does, and use your own voice and influence within your circles to support and amplify others with fewer advantages?

Wishing you a peaceful and hopeful week. Thanks for all you do to build a more inclusive world.

All the best-
