5 things / Trevor Noah
Hi there -
The most engaging thing I watched this week was a video that Trevor Noah made about the racial equity protests happening in the U.S. You can watch it here. It's great.
On Thursday, I hosted a small group discussion around anti-racism. I may host another, so please reply if that interests you.
This week I was grateful to discover some more inspiring systemic corporate best practices in anti-racism. Here we go:
Alexis Ohanian (who happens to be Serena Williams' husband) decided to resign his position on Reddit's board of directors and ask the company to replace him with a black director.
Have you been on Netflix lately and noticed their Black Lives Matter Collection? This is an incredible statement. Note that the collection does not include "The Help" which paints the star as a white savior.
The 15% pledge calls on retailers to commit a minimum of 15% of their shelf-space to black-owned businesses. Sephora and Rent the Runway have already signed on.
NASCAR is banning the confederate flag from its events. The statement reads: The presence of the confederate flag at NASCAR events runs contrary to our commitment to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all fans, our competitors and our industry.
Walmart, CVS and Walgreens ended their practices of locking up beauty products for Black consumers in some stores, where beauty products for white women were left un-locked.
A question to consider: which of the above best practices can you borrow to use within your own organization?
Thanks for all you do to build a more inclusive world.
All the best-
