5 Things / good vibes
Recently I've been thinking about what it means to have "good vibes" in a chaotic world in an unprecedented year. Specifically, I've been thinking about what it means to bring good vibes to the work of DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion). If you read this every week, you can probably tell that I strive to lead with good vibes.
But as a leader, what does it mean to have "good vibes?" It means that you're people-focused, direct, and solutions-driven. It also means that you're positive to the extent that you can be. It's harder these days, and leaders with good vibes share the hard stuff, too, because they know that sharing is contagious, and your whole team will open up if you set that precedent.
I wrote about that earlier this year.
Here are some things that brought the good vibes this week:
Morrison's Stores in the UK, a grocery chain, expanded its quiet hours, offering them on both Saturdays and Sunday mornings. These quiet hours which include dimmed lights, no music or announcements, and quieter checkout beeps are helpful to folks with autism. This matters because these folks may struggle with the sensory overload that can come in a busy supermarket.
Oreo delivered a powerful ad recently to show their support of the LGBTQ community. It's a sweet and unexpected piece that might make you smile. This matters because a) the ad brings good vibes; and b) LGBTQ people are still deeply under-represented in media.
The bra company Third Love created a program, the TL Effect, designed to support founders of color who own consumer-facing brands. This program provides financial, professional, and marketing support with a larger goal to ultimately increase the number of Black women CEOs in Fortune 500 companies. This matters because these founders are under-funded and under-resourced, and this equitable program is one solution.
The leading candidates for Utah governor came together in ads promising unity, no matter the outcome of the gubernatorial election. This matters because polarization is tearing America apart. Leaders who commit to a united front can help us come back together.
Wishing you a peaceful week of good vibes.
Thanks for all you do to build a more inclusive world-
All the best,
