Best Practices in a Trans 101 Workshop

Many well-meaning cisgender heterosexual allies know folks who are gay, lesbian, and/or bisexual. However, they may not know anyone who is part of the transgender community. These allies are folks who want to do the right thing, want to say the right thing, and want to be on the right side of history -- but don’t always have the right tools.

These well-meaning allies may lack a basic understanding of the spectrum of gender, key terms related to transgender, and how they can be a great ally. As you may know, part of being a great ally to LGBTQ people and transgender people is about being willing to share one’s own pronouns and ask another their pronouns. Part of being a great ally is a willingness to embrace use of the singular “they”.

A great Transgender 101 workshop addresses these topics. Our transgender webinars are designed for aspiring allies who want to do the right thing, just don’t have the specific tools. We provide tangible tools, easy solutions, and conversation starters (and we practice them!), so allies can get in action and feel more empowered to use their voice and privilege to advocate for others.

We provide Transgender 101 workshops and webinars for organizations around the world who want to be more inclusive of their transgender colleagues and clients. These Transgender webinars define key terms such as transgender, non-binary, gender expression, gender identity, and biological sex. Because we customize our transgender webinars for your audience, we can explore best practices in interacting with transgender and non-binary employees, co-workers, customers, event attendees, and consumers. Our audiences range from human resources professionals to meeting planners, to sales professionals, and our transgender webinars are always customized for the client.

A great Transgender 101 workshop should ideally be facilitated and taught by a transgender person. Any great webinar or workshop has a storytelling component, and if the transgender speaker or trainer is willing to share a little bit of their story, be vulnerable, and open to questions from the audience about their journey, the transgender webinar can be even more powerful.

Members of our team identify as part of the transgender community and are comfortable sharing some of their story during a Trans 101 workshop, ensuring your audience not only understands key terms and has practical tools for trans inclusion -- but also builds some empathy towards transgender people.
